The purpose of the Society shall be to encourage and support all members of Scottish lineage or other interested parties in the perpetuation of Scottish history, traditions, education, customs, etc. The Society fulfills this purpose by holding social functions for the members and guests and by supporting activities such as Scottish Country Dancing, Highland Dancing, Pipe and Drum Bands, Scottish athletic events and festivals either run by the Society or other Scottish organizations. The Society is a volunteer organization dedicated to this purpose.
Hello, my name is Buck Buchanan and I am the 2017 President of the Scottish American Society of The Villages. Thanks for visiting our website that contains important information about our Society.
The purpose of the Society is to encourage and support all members of Scottish lineage or other interested parties in the perpetuation of Scottish history, traditions, education, customs, etc. With that in mind we plan meetings and events that are social in nature and include activities like Celtic music, whisky tasting, Saint Andrews Day festivities, sessions on clans and Scottish heritage, senior highland games, and our Robert Burns’ Supper which, in 2017, is our 19th annual celebration. We have one or two activities every month except for June, July, and August when many of our members head north or across the ocean.
Please tour our website to view events from previous years, many of which are accompanied by pictures from the event. In addition, click on the link to The Banner Project, which provides information on how members can sponsor their own Tartan Banner for display at the Society’s events or can take it to other Scottish gatherings and parades, and click on the link to the Scottish American Society Heritage Booklet where you can add your family’s history. Both the Banner Project and the Heritage Booklet are limited to members of the Society.
If you are a resident of The Villages, have an interest in Scotland and its heritage, and have not joined us before for an event, please plan to attend an upcoming event for an interesting evening, some good company, and maybe a wee dram. If you have questions, please contact me at [email protected] or call me at 352-633-5180. Lang may yer lum reek
